North of Long Beach in San Pedro you can find the spot that was used for the school Anchor Beach on the series which you can read about in this post. While a lot of filming does take place in Downtown Los Angeles the homes for characters are typically found in more residential neighborhoods. The Happy Days House is located near Paramount Studios where the show was filmed. I visited Garry Marshall’s grave the day after I came to see this house so it felt like a very full-circle moment.

If you take the Warner Bros Studio Tour you might get to see some places in the backlots where the show has been filmed but they never open up the sets in the soundstages for viewing. However, if you’re a fan of The Big Bang Theory (and old Sheldon) you can see Sheldon and Leonard’s apartment and even sit in Sheldon’s spot. There are bushes providing a barrier between the home and the street. This home feels the most private in the sense that all of the other homes on the list are easily visible from the street and sidewalk.

Almost any part of the LA area will be home to at least one or two of the iconic houses. Since all the homes on this list are private residences I do ask and recommend that you try and be as respectful as possible when you go to visit. Rachel Brosnahan had a very limited time on House of Cards compared to other actors on this list, but by all means, she had a great impact on the characters she interacted with. Since leaving the series Brosnahan has starred in various different roles but her most outstanding one to date would be playing the lead role in the series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

The show Charmed is set in San Francisco which has plenty of great Victorian-style houses, but the house is actually in Los Angeles. The Revere House offers tours, demonstrations of era-specific tools and techniques, and reenactors. Take a self-guided tour through the well-preserved home of Paul Revere and his family. For over 20 years the Revere family lived in this home, including during the American Revolution. Learn about the man who worked as a silversmith and discover how he became an American legend from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1860 publication "Paul Revere's Ride." Revere remained active in the Revolutionary War, building Boston’s first gunpowder mill and joining a Massachusetts infantry, but his remaining war record was lackluster, and he was largely unknown in his lifetime.

About half past twelve, William Dawes, who had traveled the longer land route out of Boston Neck, arrived in Lexington carrying the same message as Revere. After both men “refreshed themselves” (i.e. had something to eat and drink), they decided to continue on to Concord, Massachusetts, to verify that the military stores were properly dispersed and hidden away. A short distance outside of Lexington, they were overtaken by Dr. Samuel Prescott, who they determined was a fellow “high Son of Liberty.” A short time later, a British patrol intercepted all three men.

The two lanterns were a predetermined signal stating that the British troops planned to row “by sea” across the Charles River to Cambridge, rather than march “by land” out Boston Neck. The stirring poem made him an American hero, and while it contains historical inaccuracies—such as claiming Revere rode alone—the poem highlights the risks taken by this patriot at the start of the American Revolution.

Telling the Full Story

In April 1908, the Paul Revere House opened its doors to the public as one of the earliest historic house museums in the nation. Its heavy beams, large fireplaces, and absence of interior hallways are typical of colonial living arrangements. The two chambers upstairs contain several pieces of furniture believed to have belonged to the Revere family. Paul Revere owned this house from 1770 to 1800, although he and his family may have lived elsewhere for periods in the 1780s and 1790s. It is believed that during the Revere occupancy the rear chimney was added (c. 1790) including the kitchen that visitors see in the first room they enter. Around the middle of the eighteenth century, the Paul Revere House went through two major renovations.

Museum Shop

When the building faced demolition, a great grandson of Paul Revere, John P. Reynolds Jr, stepped in to save the house and purchased it. By 1908 funds had been raised to restore the home and it opened to the public as a historic house museum in April, 1908. Paul Revere owned the home from 1770 to 1800, although he and his family may not have lived here for most, if not all, of the 1780s. After Revere sold the home in 1800, it soon became a sailor’s boarding house.

The Most Famous Residents - The Revere Family

Prescott and Dawes escaped; Revere was held for some time, questioned, and let go. Before he was released, however, his horse was confiscated to replace the tired mount of a British sergeant. Left alone on the road, Revere returned to Lexington on foot in time to witness the latter part of the battle on Lexington Green.

Though caught in time, the incident raised considerable concern about the uses to which the home was being put and the potential for a devastating accident. The Paul Revere House, built c.1680, was the colonial home of American Patriot and Founding Father Paul Revere during the time of the American Revolution. A National Historic Landmark since 1961, it is located at 19 North Square, Boston, Massachusetts, in the city's North End, and is now operated as a nonprofit museum by the Paul Revere Memorial Association. The excerpt from that essay has been shared by the nonprofit Los Angeles Conservancy, which spearheaded the campaign to landmark Williams’ first home in Jefferson Park as an HCM.

After the death of his wife, Sarah, in 1773, he married Rachel Walker and they had eight additional children. Amid the growing political tensions in Boston, Revere continued to strengthen his roots in the colonial harbor city. In 1770, he bought the now-landmarked Paul Revere House at 19 North Square for his growing family. Revere returned to Boston after a failed military expedition and started to build his family life and business. He wed Sarah Orne in 1765, and they had eight children before she died nearly two decades later. Paul Revere was born in the North End neighborhood of Boston at the end of 1734 (the exact date is unknown) to a French Huguenot father who ran a silversmith shop and a mother from a local family.

It was from this building's balcony on July 18, 1776 that Bostonians heard the Declaration of Independence for the first time. Maintenance projects and capital restoration efforts require that funds be raised on an annual basis. A half hour to an hour will be enough to see all the basics of the house. Revere, himself, was a renaissance man who worked as a silversmith and coppersmith. He was one of the most knowledgeable metalworkers in the colonies at the height of his profession. Revere next stopped at his home to collect his boots and overcoat before friends rowed him across the Charles River to Charlestown.

Climb (no elevator) the monument's 294 steps to the top for a spectacular view. Visit the nearby Bunker Hill Museum for exhibits about the battle, the building of the monument, and the history of the Charlestown neighborhood. By the winter of 1907, all but $4000 of the total needed had been pledged. This final amount was provided by Pauline Revere Thayer, a Revere descendant, and her husband Nathaniel. Our historic buildings provide a unique bridge from Boston’s Revolutionary story to its 19th century immigrant history. Sarah Revere died in 1773 from complications of giving birth to her eighth child. Paul Revere remarried a few months later to a woman named Rachel Walker. Rachel played a critical in continuing to manage a growing household.

As the house is on  the Boston Freedom Trail, visitors may choose to continue walking the trail to the many other historic sites on the trail. However, you will also be in the heart of Boston’s North End, home to a host of popular restaurants and bakeries. A visit just before lunch would time things perfectly to set up a memorable meal to follow up your visit.

Revere’s wife, Sarah, died in 1773 and he married his second wife, Rachel, later that same year. However, they may not have lived there for most or all of the 1780s, during which time the house was rented out to several people. They remained there until Revere sold the house in 1800 to a trader named John Hunting and purchased a large brick house on Charter Street that he had been renting.

On April 18, 1775, Revere set out in the dark from his North Boston home by horse with William Dawes to reach Adams and Hancock. The two riders met Adams and Hancock in Lexington and enabled the revolutionaries to avoid arrest. The young Revere was educated in reading and writing in school before completing his training as an apprentice to his silversmith father. But he left the business briefly and enlisted in a provincial army in 1756 during the French and Indian War. The iconic artisan Paul Revere and his home embody the cultural heritage and historical memory of Boston.

Second, a two-story lean-to was added in the ell between the two 17th-century portions of the house (this lean-to was removed by the restoration in 1907–1908). His L-shaped townhouse contained spacious rooms and would have been enhanced by exterior features such as a second-floor overhang and casement windows. Personal photos are only allowed in the outdoor Courtyard area but not inside the historic buildings.

Things moved along slowly and just earlier this month, the PLUM Committee threw its support behind the pending nomination. Shepherded by Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson, the nomination then moved to the full City Council. On February 16, council members voted unanimously in support of the nomination’s passage.

Joseph Warren dispatched Paul Revere, Samuel Prescott and William Dawes to raise the alarm among the residents west of Boston, especially Hancock and Adams, that the British planned a confrontation. These included clay tobacco pipe fragments, buttons, a pierced cowrie shell, and even leather shoe parts. The Office of Public Archaeology at Boston University conducted an archaeological survey of the Revere House in 1983. It included the Revere lot as well as the neighboring Barnard and Hichborn lots. It assessed the potential effects of the construction of a shelter for a Revere-cast bell, expansion of the gardens, and the replacement of a staircase behind the Revere house.

And while the aforementioned AD feature included many notable components of Williams’s career—from the impressive breadth of his portfolio to his warp-speed turnaround times—it really just scratched the surface. Overlooking the pool is the spacious Moderne-style pool house, again designed by Williams and featured on the cover of Architectural Digest magazine in 1933. Still known as the Paley House, this 15,000-square-foot Georgian Colonial-style mansion was commissioned by Jay Paley, whose family founded the Columbia Broadcasting System, better known as CBS. These hills, overlooking Boston's harbor and waterfront from the south, were the site of fortifications built at night by the Continental Army in March, 1776. Artillery mounted here hastened General Howe's decision to take his troops away from Boston, which in turn ended the siege of Boston, gave General Washington his first victory, and inspired the Patriot cause. Only yards away from "Old Ironsides," the museum offers hands-on activities for visitors of all ages. Tour the church where Paul Revere arranged for two lanterns to be hung from the steeple on April 18, 1775 to signal patriots in Charlestown that British troops were heading to Lexington and Concord by way of the Charles River.

He reworked a Henry Pelham drawing in an engraving and widely distributed prints of the stark image of armed British troops taking aim at the colonists. The growing unrest boiled over on March 5, 1770, when British troops and a crowd of colonists faced off on Boston’s King Street near the Customs house. The tense standoff ended in the Boston Massacre, as the British used their bayonet rifles to shoot and kill five unarmed colonists. The Paul Revere house serves as the oldest residential building, still standing, in downtown Boston. The neighborhood served as a home and workplace for many skilled artisans, tradesman, and merchants. By the mid-1700s the house was a modest dwelling compared to the large mansions of Boston's elite. Nonetheless, it was a perfect home for an aspiring middling family. Early preservationists raised money to purchase and preserve the home as a historic site. Pauline Revere Thayer, a great-granddaughter of Paul Revere, and cousin of John Phillips Reynolds, Jr., was also a key figure in the early years of the Association and the restoration of the house. She lost her father, Paul Joseph Revere and her uncle Edward H.R. Revere in the Civil War.
